When YES! editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon contacted the Directors’ Guild of the Philippines Inc. (DGPI) - through its president, Carlos Siguion-Reyna - for this piece, the guild welcomed the assignment despite the challenge: How does one decide the parameters for choosing the “best of all time�
The film directors narrowed the parameters down to: the candidate’s choice of films; the impact, importance, and legacy of her performance in these films; the consistency of excellence in those portrayals; and other important services to cinema in particular or to society in general.
That there were more names of great performers than could be accommodated was a source of frustration within the group.
The selection was finalized in a board meeting with the following DGPI officers in attendance: chair Joel Lamangan, President Carlos Siguion-Reyna, vice-president Emmanuel Borlaza, secretaty Joey Romero, treasurer Mel Chionglo, and board members Erik Matti, Maryo J. delos Reyes, and Romy Suzara.
