Fourteen Questions for Annabelle Rama
On the occasion of her 55th birthday, former sexy star and now talent manager Annabelle Rama had a no-holds barred interview with host Boy Abunda over “The Buzz†on Sunday.
Rama told Abunda how pleased she was that during her birthday party, her husband, actor and former Elvis Presley impersonator Eddie Gutierrez sang to her. She said that it was one of her fondest wishes for him to sing to her on her birthday.
Rama even made a comment about the ongoing domestic– and now very public — conflict between her friend Daisy Romualdez and Romualdez’s daughter, Danita.
“Kasi ang mga bata talaga basta magka-boyfriend talaga iyan masamang-masama na ang nanay talaga. Totoo iyan. Kaya ang advice ko kay Danita, alam mo pag nagka-boyfriend ka, ang boyfriend na iyan masarap lang iyan for six months. Pag nabuntis ka goodbye ka na rin,†Rama said, wrly.
(You know young girls once they get a boyfriend their mothers suddenly become evil incarnate. That’s true. That’s why my advice to Danita is, you know when you get a boyfriend, that boyfriend is bliss only for about six months. Once you get pregnant, it’s goodbye for you.)
Rama then gamely answered Abunda’s questions. (Original text translated to English)
Are you afraid of losing Tito Eddie?
Of course. I want to die ahead of him. I don’t want him to go ahead. I won’t be able to endure it. I don’t want him to go before me. If possible, I’d like to go first.
Would you forgive Yilmaz if he asks for forgiveness?
It’s okay. I’ll forgive him for the sake of my granddaughters. Those two keep telling me that their papa loves me. I’ll forgive Yilmaz for their sake. But if he asks for Ruffa and my grandkids to go back (to Turkey) with him, no way. We can talk about what’s best for us considering the situation but Ruffa should stay here.
Looking back at your life, what fight do you remember losing?
At the casino. During the Manny Pacquiao fight. You see in Las Vegas you don’t bet on who wins. Instead we bet on whether or not the fight would end with a knockout by Manny.
If you could turn back time, would you like to go back to the orphanage?
You know what, I have a good life here outside. But it was also okay when I was still at the orphanage because that was where I learned to go to church and to pray. I learned a lot from the nuns. But of course it’s more fun outside. Inside the orphanage we just kept praying. We pray at five o’clock in the morning and pray again at five in the afternoon. So many prayers. That’s why my prayers back then was for me to be able to get out so I could find the man I admired so much, which actually happened. I found him and he even married me.
If you have one prayer right now what is it?
For my whole family to be healthy and intact. That no one leaves or gets separated.
Arrange these three from the most important to the least important. Three things: Beauty, Money, Family.
Family first. Then Money. Beauty. If you have all three, you’re happy.
I understand why Family. But why Money?
Because it would be bad if you have a family but no money to feed them. It’s better if you have the money, then a family as well. They go together. And if you’re also beautiful, then you’ve got it made.
Among Ruffa’s boyfriends, who did you like most? Who did you hate the most?
None. I can’t think of anybody.
When you were 25, and when Ruffa was 25, who was more beautiful?
Of course, the mother.
If you and Eddie did not end up together, who would each of you be married to now?
I know that in Eddie’s case, he would have ended up with a beauty queen. She was very famous back in the day when she won. This wasn’t Gloria Diaz. This was a different woman. Spanish. She was really beautiful. I really felt insecure over her. She and Eddie were about to get married but I used my being Visayan, so the wedding didn’t push through. Hinarang-harang ko ang beauty niya.
In my case, I would have married someone else who was going back and forth from Manila to Cebu. But I won’t mention his name because he already has a lot of children.
What do you have that Ruffa doesn’t?
Mayroon ako na wala si Ruffa? Magsabi ka ng totoo Ruffa. That’s it. Ruffa is afraid to tell the truth sometimes. I keep telling her not to be “plasticâ€. Always stick to the truth, I keep telling her.
Heaven or Hell, where would you go?
To heaven, of course. God knows that I’m so good. I helped a lot of people and I never stepped on anyone just to get ahead.
So you’re going to heaven but could only bring one person along. Who would it be?
Who else but Eduardo.
Who would you kiss apart from your husband Eddie and your family?
My granddaughters. My beloved granddaughters.
